Jonathan Fellus, M.D.

Dr. Jonathan Fellus specializes in brain injury rehabilitation, including the use of medication to manage the cognitive, behavioral and psychiatric problems associated with this type of injury. He also has special expertise in neurological disorders, pain management, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, spasticity management and stroke.

Dr. Fellus received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick. He completed a residency in neurology at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, where he was appointed chief resident. He received additional training in neurorehabilitation during a fellowship at the University of Maryland's Kernan Rehabilitation Hospital in Baltimore.

Board certified in neurology, Dr. Fellus joined Kessler Institute in 1997 as a staff neurologist and now serves as the Director of Brain Injury Services. He has been instrumental in the growth of this nationally recognized program.

He lends his expertise to several important research projects on drug treatments for cognitive and behavioral deficits in patients who have sustained a traumatic or acquired brain injury. He has also conducted research on the non-surgical management of spasticity, including the use of Botox® and Baclofen®.

A highly regarded speaker, Dr. Fellus is frequently called upon to present at meetings, seminars and conferences across the country. His lectures cover a wide range of topics pertaining to brain injury, such as fatigue, pharmacologic management of behavior and interventions for individuals with brain injury who are in a coma, vegetative or minimally conscious state. He has also presented several posters and abstracts at industry conferences. In addition, he has published several book chapters on a variety of subject, including neurorehabilitation and fatigue.

Dr. Fellus is a former board member of the American Society of Neurorehabilitation and the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey. He has also served on the Physicians Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey and was appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Panel on Brain Injury Research.

He has been named as a “Best Doctor” in New York magazine’s annual survey and has similarly been listed in the reference book, Top Doctors: New York Metro Area, published by Castle Connolly, since 2003. Dr. Fellus has appeared on many television programs as an expert in the field of traumatic brain injury and is often called upon as a legal expert in this field.
