Outcomes

Our goal — like that of our patients — is to optimize their physical and functional recovery. Through Kessler's comprehensive program of medical, nursing and therapy care and support services, we help each patient to regain function, recover skills, and return to their daily activities with as much independence as possible.

Depending on the nature and extent of their injury, patients will have different rehabilitation goals and will progress at their own speed towards them.

Measuring and reporting patient outcomes is central to everything we do. Some indicators we monitor include:

  • Patient Functional Improvement related to activities of daily living
    • Grooming
    • Walking
    • Stair Climbing
  • Daily Patient Improvement during their rehabilitation stay
  • Discharge to Home

We look at patient improvement, comparing "like" patients. For example, comparing a patient who has had a stroke with a particular level of severity to similar patients across the country provides important feedback about the quality of our rehabilitation program. Here, for example, is a comparison of the improvements made by patients during their stay in 2008 who had experienced a stroke with moderate functional impairments.
